Why are people so mean these days?

Why are there so many corrupt people these days that cheat people and pull others down for their own benefits? People these days are so uncaring and have such bad thoughts of harming others for their own benefits. There is only one person out of everybody I know of that doesn’t do these things. It seems almost everybody have these thoughts in their minds. Thus, making it hard for me to make friends.
