Is this real? What is his true character? I'm very confused...?

Don't trust this. I don't think mean people can really become nice people. This is a guy who said he'd never marry you. When he doesn't marry you, when you have kids, he will continue with his verbal abuse and it will be much harder to leave then. Why didn't he think that his bad behavior would lead you to leave him when he did it? Its pretty predictable that you would leave. If you go back, you show him that he can always treat you this way and now he feels challenged to get you back because you aren't putting up with him. This guy called the cops on you several times! Why would you want to go back? This is not for real. I've dated some jerks, but never anyone who called the cops on me. You've got to end this for sure.
