What is the best way to become a famous singer?

I LOVE singing and i KNOW that this is what i wanna do. I know people say like american Idol or america's got talent or voice. but which one works better? and what can i do other than that.. because I am 16 but i dont really have a chance on one of those shows cuz i cant try cuz i live way too far from any big cities where they have auditions so i prolly have to wait till i am 18 so what should i do?
