Can't upload wmv file to windows movie maker?

originally this video was in quicktime movie format and then i converted it to wmv so that I can edit it on windows movie maker but when i import the video it says that it can't open the file. windows media player plays it fine. any suggestions on how i can edit this video on windows movie maker? do i need to change the format?
